Lady sacked for attending Peter Obi’s rally in Port Harcourt gets new job

A Rivers State-based lady, Regina Ledum Barizaasi who was recently sacked by her former boss for attending the two-million-man march for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has gotten a new job in Port Harcourt.

DAILY POST reports that the 100-level student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education had in a viral video requested help from Nigerians alleging that she was fired by her boss for attending the rally which took place on August 27.

In the video, the young lady who works as a receptionist in a hotel in Port Harcourt said she attended the rally because it was her off day.

Regina claimed she had relied on the job to offset her school fees and take care of her siblings.

She said, “I was just laid off from work two days ago because I went out for the two million march for Peter Obi in Port Harcourt. I was working in a hotel as a receptionist.

“The day of the march was my off-day, so I was at home, after the march, I went back to work the following day and my boss now called me and said that I should go and meet Peter Obi to give me a job”.

However, according to a new video obtained by DAILY POST, Regina has been employed by the management of the Omega Power Ministry, OPM.

She was employed to work at the ultramodern printing press belonging to the church with a higher wage.

Mysterious how Adamu, Ngige still in office while ASUU strike persists – Rafsanjani

The Executive Director, Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre CISLAC, Auwalu Ibrahim Rafsanjani on Saturday bemoaned handlers of Nigeria’s education system, saying it is baffling that the Ministers of Education Adamu Adamu and that of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige could still hang on in office despite the closure of the citadels of learning for over 6 months.

Mr. Ibrahim Rafsanjani who spoke in Kano at a Journalists’ training on “prioritizing anti-corruption and accountability issues during the upcoming 2023 elections” declared ASUU industrial action as legitimate steps to revamp University education.

Mr Rafsanjani said, “It is only in Nigeria, Universities are closed for 6 months and people who are in charge of Education are not resigning.”

He explained that “The legitimate demand by ASUU is about quality of Education. You cannot have a University without a laboratory, a university without facilities to carry out research. In the world today, innovations in science and technology are coming from universities, and our own has become stationary. As patriots, you don’t expect the teachers to remain unconcerned.”.

The CISLAC boss lamented that “The last time ASUU enjoyed salary review was in 2009, and from 2009 to date, we all know that prices of things have skyrocketed, and for them to demand salary review it is legitimate because one school dropout who happened to be a legislature or political appointee earns million, while a professor in the University earns N116k.”

Rafsanjani said, “A Professor who has spent 30 years in the system earns N416k, while one legislature who is probably a school dropout he earns in the House of Representatives N17m excluding other illegitimate earnings. In the Senate, it is N19m excluding other illegitimate earnings, and you will say a University professor should not earn N500k.”

The CISLAC boss said “You cajole them, you incite the public against them, but they have families. If the politicians and political appointees are earning much, for goodness sake, while should we look down on our teacher.”

Auwalu Ibrahim Rafsanjani maintained that “The whole essence boils down to bastardization of institutions they benefitted from because none of them went to private schools. Some of them were even given allowances they were collecting free meals but now you have children you can not afford to send them to university because they are pushing people to go to private universities. It’s not everybody that can pay school fees.”

He said, “As of today, private universities are collecting per semester N3m, where will you get that money as a civil servant unless you are a thief”.

He posited, “We must understand the consequences of corruption, it has compromised our security, destroyed our health care system, and also destroyed our education and values system. Corruption has helped to undermine our development, help to undermine everything around us and we are moving as if everything is alright.”

Tinubu charges Nigerian youth ‘to continue breaking boundaries (VIDEO)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has praised young Nigerian musicians for elevating the country.

In a video posted on his Twitter handle on Friday, Tinubu said Nigerian music “was moving people and making them dance in large venues across the world.”

The former Lagos State governor published the videos to commemorate the International Youth Day 2022.

He added that many Nigerian musicians including Temilade Openiyi aka Tems, David Adeleke alias Davido, Tiwa Savage, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu aka Burna Boy, and Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun also known as Wizkid “control the world.”

Tinubu said: “Blessed with the inexhaustible energies and brilliance of young people. Everyday, they keep breaking boundaries and records in almost every human endeavour. The creativity that lives in the heart of the average Nigerian youth shines bright like the sun.

“I must acknowledge and appreciate the innovators that power the economy that has changed lives. People like Mitchell Elegbe, Tarebi Alebiosu, Aniedi Odo- Obong, Odunayo Eweniyi, Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin.

“And many others are leading the way, embellishing through their enterprise, creativity and vision. Our nation’s fast growing reputation as the best place for tech entrepreneurship on the African continent.

“Our future is full of hope and excitement in the African continent. Our future is full of hope and excitement, in part because of the work these men and women have done and continue to do. I celebrate them all.”

The APC candidate also praised Nigerian female athletes for their record-breaking feats at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.

“What can I say that has not been said about the Queen of the tracks, Tobi Amusan?

“Record breaker, Ese Brume, fearless wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye and speed setter, Favour Ofili are but a few of the young ladies showing the men how it is done and showing the world that Nigeria is more than just a footballing nation,” he added.

Again, Buhari urges ASUU to call off strike

President Muhammadu Buhari has again appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing strike.

Buhari made the call on Friday in Maiduguri at the maiden Special Convocation Ceremony and conferment of Honourary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Maiduguri on Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, Chairman, Oriental Energy Resources Ltd.

The president was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari.

“Its more appropriate that we say something about this ASUU strike because we are celebrating Alhaji Indimi who is celebrated hugely for advancement of quality education not only in this country.

“In this regard, I want to convey President Muhammadu Buhari call for ASUU to call off thier strike and return to classroom”.

The president said negotiations had gone far, and for ASUU to continue the strike under such condition was counter productive.

Accorcing to him, such prolong interruption of education is undermining the nation’s development of human capital.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba said the maiden special convocation was to give honour to Indimi for his contribution to educational development at home and abroad.

He urged the Federal Government, ASUU and other unions in the university to resolve the lingering strike to save the education sector.

Also, former President Olusegun Obasanjo lauded the peaceful atmosphere in Maiduguri, adding that, “what I saw is contrary to the picture being painted outside”.

Obasanjo lauded the effort of Borno government and other stakeholders for the relative peace in the state and urged them to sustain the tempo.

He congratulated Indimi for the honour bestowed on him, describing him as “a self made man as shown by his struggled to greatness in life”.

For his part, Indimi expressed gratitude to God for the honour done to him and reiterated commitment to selfless service to humanity.

Prof. Saliba James, who read the citation of the celebrant, said that Indimi had distinguished himself in promoting educational development within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

“Indimi has been providing remarkable help to the vulnerable and downtrodden people in the society irrespective of where they come from.

“He has supported many indigent students in Borno, his home state and even in far away states like Akwa Ibom.

“It is on record that Alhaji (Dr.) Indimi has provided vital education infrastructure in International University of Africa (IUA), Sudan; in far away Lynn University, Florida, USA, and of course not forgetting to mention this multi-billion Naira magnificent edifice where we are right now seated and holding this Special Convocation today in this University.

“I believe that his best is yet to come”, James said.
